The drive over is short. Come east on Kings Highway or Avenue U and you are here in about a quarter of an hour, which is why plenty of people from the 11214 and 11204 blocks just leave the car with us and take the train back. Truck-heavy avenues do most of the damage. Gravel thrown off a flatbed on Cropsey Avenue arrives at windshield height, and the chip it leaves spreads across the driver side within a cold week. Belt Parkway sand in winter does the slower version of the same job, pitting the surface until oncoming beams smear into a haze.
