Tempered glass does not crack; it disintegrates. One strike and the whole pane turns into a few thousand blunt pellets that go everywhere, which is why the cleanup is a bigger part of this job than the fitting. Pellets sit inside the door cavity, under the seat rails, in the window channel and in the defroster ducting, and if they are left there they rattle for years and jam the regulator later on.
So we strip the door card, vacuum the shell out properly, clear the channel and the run, then fit the new pane on fresh clips. Most side and rear glass lands between $200 and $450 including all of that. If the impact bent the regulator or stripped the lift mechanism, we sort that at the same time rather than handing back a window that goes down and refuses to come up. Back glass with a defroster grid needs its tabs reconnected and tested before the car leaves, and we test it rather than assume. Narrow lanes account for a fair share of the side glass we replace from these blocks.
